“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
If the leaves haven’t already begun to change for you, they will soon. Pumpkins will ripen, leaves will crisp up, turkeys will fatten and arrive on the table—or maybe not. If the thought of moving indoors to escape the weather makes you feel restless, here is a list reminding you of things you can look forward to this fall:
Home Decor

No place is cozier than your own home in the fall. We’re not sure what we love more – bringing the outdoors, indoors or getting inspired by the warm colors that come with the season. In any regard, creating a seasonal escape is one of our favorite parts about the fall. Here are our top 4 fall decor tips:
Pumpkins. Of course your front door deserves a cluster of perfect pumpkins, but placing pumpkins in unexpected spots is also an adorable way to decorate your home! Firbank Farms in Saanichton, BC is a hidden gem for pumpkins. Whether you’re looking for classic orange pumpkins, ghostly whites, blue pumpkins, or pink pumpkins – their variety is amazing and we love the fact that they’re local.
Layers! While we don’t mean clothes, the same rules apply. Layering blankets and rugs is a great way to warm up the home. Play with textures, colors, shape, but never sacrifice comfort!
Color. With more time on our hands these days, there’s a perfect opportunity to play with paint and we don’t necessarily mean an entire room or even a wall, although why not? Grab an old picture frame, revamp a dresser, or throw a fun color on an interior door. Benjamin Moore’s Small Batch Interior Paint is one of our favourites, and they have a truly gorgeous fall inspired palette.

“Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style.”
If you adore buffalo check, now is the time to bring it out. If your vibe is rustic, play into that by pulling more wood accents and pieces into your decor and home. At the end of the day, fall decor is all about creating a space that is warm and welcoming, and that rings differently to everyone!
Food & Beverages
Pumpkin Spice. Need we say more? Eating or smelling pumpkin during a different season just feels wrong. Know that the holy grail that is Pumpkin Spice holds its seat firmly in the fall. Again, with more time on our hands now more than ever (common theme), baking seems like a fitting activity for almost any day of the week. Fresh cinnamon rolls? I’ll take a dozen! Here’s a great recipe for Overnight Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls.

There is nothing like true comfort food and fall is all about warm, hearty meals. Think spiced cakes, stews, Joanna Gaines’ Gruyere Scalloped Potatoes (if you haven’t tried them, you must!), hot chocolate, apple cider, and Thanksgiving feasts! I am hungry…
Family Time
It looks like we are going to be sticking to our homes for the foreseeable future, but what a great opportunity for quality time with your close family. As we are forced to spend more time indoors, it’s an opportunity to listen well, be still by the fireplace, or converse over the dinner table with a good bowl of soup. Something we like to do at our house, especially during this time of year, is talk about our “highs and lows” around the dinner table; the things you’re grateful for or the best part about your day, and the low part of your day. We like to keep it real, because things are not always perfect or “good”. It’s the best way to end the day.

Indoor Activities
This is prime time for curling up with a blanket on a cold and rainy day, and enjoying a new book or favourite podcast. We’re going to leave you with a small to-do list, three books and one podcast. For the books, The Forgotten Home Child by Geneveive Graham, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, and Educated by Tara Westover.
We haven’t completely dove into the realm of podcasts, but if you’re looking for something funny and relatable, Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert “celebrates the messiness of being human” by interviewing academics, celebrities, and journalists. It’s a good one!
Fall Prints

This probably falls under “Home Decor” but we couldn’t help it. We had to create an entire section dedicated to fall prints, because we love words. We just launched an Etsy shop, where we’ve turned some of our favourite quotes into downloadable prints, so that you can spice up your home this fall!
Thank you for reading our Fallin’ for the Season blog, we hope you enjoyed it! We’d love to hear what you look forward to this time of year, let us know in the comments!
